CRAU explanation: Hermes spent a year in

labyrinthum, a dark fantasy game. He experienced a variety of events that tested him mentally, emotionally, and physically, challenging his view of both the world and of himself. His most significant development was in two areas: interpersonal relationships and knowledge of his own future.

Hermes formed several close relationships, some of which were romantic in nature. He found people with whom he could relate emotionally, alleviating much of the loneliness and isolation that had plagued him for his whole life. He felt seen and understood, and could express himself without fear of empty platitudes. He also stopped wearing the mask all Ancients wear, taking a large step toward individuality and personal freedom.

His knowledge of his own future stemmed from an event where he inhabited the body of "Fandaniel," his far future self. Hermes experienced Fandaniel's grief, rage, torment, and madness firsthand. He learned that eventually, he will become a man who wants to die and take the whole world with him. This devastated Hermes, to whom all life is precious. He struggled to separate Fandaniel's memories from his own, maintaining that he wanted to be Hermes, not Fandaniel. Hermes never learned what caused Fandaniel to succumb to madness. Although Hermes has recovered mentally from the ordeal, he still fears what may be an inevitable fate.

Overall, the major difference between canon!Hermes and CRAU!Hermes lies in his willingness to engage with others. He is no longer as standoffish or isolated as he is in canon. He takes more emotional risks, and he's more willing to speak to people honestly. That said, he has remained firm on two points: that every life has meaning and worth, and that his own people are hypocrites for viewing creations as lesser beings.
CRAU powers: Hermes gained Healing Magic, which allows him to heal himself and others. He is able to go so far as to save others from death, but cannot revive those who have already died.

Yes.

What is the wish your character made? Why did they make it?
Hermes wished to know the answer to his eternal question: What do others live for, and what gives their lives meaning?

This question has consumed Hermes for countless years. He is dissatisfied with the life he and other Ancients lead. He can't stand the contradiction between his people's happiness and the pain in the eyes of creations as they are unmade—acts of violence ostensibly performed for the sake of Etheirys (his world). He seeks answers to his question in order to provide alternatives, and to make Etheirys a better place.

Hermes firmly believes these answers are necessary for the betterment of all. He is willing to do whatever it takes to find answers, including signing Decadia's contract.

How will your character initially react to Decadia's setting?
Hermes will react with shock, as Decadia is a far cry from anything he has previously experienced. The abundance of resources will not surprise him since Etheirys was similar. However, Decadia's attitude toward sex and privacy will be a different story. He will initially struggle to ignore the fact that he's being recorded 24/7. He may be inclined to start wearing his mask again for added privacy, if not conformity. It's likely this 'hide' impulse will fade as he adjusts to being recorded, but it may reemerge when he's reminded that he's being watched at all times.

Once he becomes acquainted with others, Hermes will begin trying to fulfill his contract. It's unlikely he'll immediately take anyone to bed (unless he knows them from canon or CRAU). But he will begin touching and holding hands more often, just to get himself used to the idea of further intimacy.

What are you most interested in doing with your character in Decadia?
I'm most interested in getting Hermes laid. This is a multi-step process due to what kind of character he is, and it will keep me as a player busy for quite a while.

The biggest factor in getting Hermes laid will be building CR. Hermes is a character who longs for emotional connections with others. He's not the type to take just anyone to his bed. He wants to be able to understand them, and ideally to relate to them on a profound level. For him, sex is a physical expression of emotional closeness. Building CR will be key.

A secondary factor in getting Hermes laid will involve his wardrobe. Currently, Hermes dresses in the long black robes worn by his people. It will take time for him to be comfortable doing things like exposing more skin. However, as he becomes more comfortable with the idea of showing off his body, he will also become more comfortable with the idea of sharing his body with others.

What aspect of sex appeals to your character the most?
The intimacy.

Hermes has spent the majority of his life lonely, socially isolated in a society where conformity and uniformity are highly valued. He has thought himself an "aberration" for thinking and feeling the way he does. He is literally the saddest person on Etheirys, and he despised being so alone with his pain.

Sex is a way for Hermes to connect with others. It's a way to share emotions and sensations, to give and receive pleasure. It's a way to be vulnerable and to share himself without the fear of rejection. It's also a way for him to provide safety and comfort to a partner who might need it—or, in rarer cases, to receive the same.

What kinks does your character have, known or unknown to them? Why do they have those particular kinks?
Most of Hermes' existing kinks are fairly vanilla. Kissing is a big one due to its intimacy. Mutual masturbation is another; he enjoys observing his partner giving themselves pleasure, and learning what they like. Sensation play is also high on the list, specifically sex involving feathers. This is due to Hermes' transformation covering him in lots of feathers. It also bleeds into body worship.

Clothing and mirrors are two major undiscovered kinks. Clothing is an expression of individuality; he could get very turned on by either dressing up for a partner or having them dress up for him. Mirrors are another big kink, but not so he can see himself. He would want his partner to see themselves in the throes of pleasure, and to convince them that they are as lovely as he believes them to be.

What Hermes doesn't yet realize is that he is, at heart, a soft dom. He wants to take care of his partner. He wants to bring them pleasure and comfort. He wants them to feel safe and secure, seen in a way that Hermes himself has rarely been seen. He is more flexible kink-wise than he realizes, because he is willing to try all sorts of different kinks to make his partner feel happy in his arms.

What is the wish your character made? Why did they make it?

To destroy Irontomb, which is an extinction event brought on by Mydei's home, Amphoreus, being a part of a supercomputer running calculations to awaken it. While his companion Phainon has been absorbed by Irontomb, and he knows that Phainon is using every last bit of his strength to keep Irontomb from waking up, he also knows Phainon wouldn't want Mydei to prioritize his safety over the universe. He also has hope that the Trailblazer will be able to save Phainon.

He will seek out the Producers out to make 'save Phainon' an additional explicit wish if he realizes this is possible, or 'save the Chrysos Heirs' if he realizes it doesn't have to be that specific.

How will your character initially react to Decadia's setting?

He'll think it won't be difficult at first; he's used to existing in the public eye, both as someone loathed and as someone admired, and thus used to fielding all manner of questions (or ignoring them). He's also used to invisible constant surveillance, thanks to the 'golden threads' of a canonmate that made her an excellent spymaster.

However, he'll find that he's not used to people being this interested in what he's doing and what he's up to. Additionally, the gossip element, while familiar, will probably run to an extreme he's not comfortable with. While Amphoreus had a public bath, people also weren't as open about sex and intimacy (or voyeurism) the way that they are in Decadia. He'll do his best to pretend that he's unbothered by it, act like everything is normal, and try to keep an eye out for people struggling.

What are you most interested in doing with your character in Decadia?

Mydei will be fascinated by the different types of people and cultures that the contestants are bringing in, as well as the information that is available to the public. Eventually, he's going to push up against the boundaries of what's available in Decadia, and I think he'll have fun digging into what's behind the veneer of lust and plenty.

He's also naturally a physical guy, so he'd fall into having sex quite easily; it'll be the intimacy that he struggles with, since he's not fond of wearing his emotions on his sleeves. He's not a hard book to read by any means, but he likes to use anger or irritation to hide what he's actually feeling. I'm hoping he can meet people who can be patient with him and let him open up to them, even if it has to start through sparring or sex.

What aspect of sex appeals to your character the most?

The intimacy and physical nature of it. Mydei has long held himself apart from others, first because he was exiled; then because he became a kingslayer (and committed fratricide) and subsequently was thrust into a leadership position to protect his people. In the course of his battle campaign, he lost his five closest friends; his people's arrival to the safe city was viewed as dangerous as Kremnoans are viewed as violent. Thus, he's not used to being particularly close to anyone, and even those he'd call his friends he keeps some degree of separation with.

Because of his survivalist and warrior backgrounds, he's no stranger to using his body to get what he wants. He's used it for pleasure before, but that's never been his sole focus, so experimenting will eventually be something he enjoys. Sex can be quite intimate (even with a stranger) and so Mydei getting access to that level of intimacy, as well as meeting people who are post-coital cuddlers and handling aftercare, will probably make him realize how little he actually got such skinship. (Yes, I'm going to make him a cuddle slut).

What kinks does your character have, known or unknown to them? Why do they have those particular kinks?

Mydei has some kinks that, while he might not be able to formally name them, he definitely enjoys. He knows he likes it when he's able to fight someone and match evenly with them; he doesn't mind winning, but he doesn't want to win easily either. He likes some pain with his pleasure, though he won't inflict this on someone if they indicate they don't like it. He wants people who can handle a little roughness, who might not mind getting thrown around or held down by him.

He loves brat taming, even if he doesn't know to call it that. He likes to bite and be bitten, and he doesn't mind if his own blood is drawn since he's effectively immortal. If someone ever wanted to take the dominant role from him by force, he'd be pleasantly surprised to realize he likes being on the receiving end of what he enjoys as well. He's also into cuddling and soft domestic bullshit, so he's probably going to end up feminized or called wife at some point and like it.

Is your character willing to have sex and able to give informed consent?

Yes, he is. While the Creation is young in this form, he is made of parts taken from adults. There is also some indication that he remembers bits and pieces of his lives prior to being reborn. He is aware of the relationships people have with each other and desperately craves that kind of closeness. He has also spent time around animals, both wild and domestic, and understands the concept of procreation. In fact, it is his desire for companionship that drives him to seek out Victor Frankenstein and ask him to make another creation like himself. In the book, he specifies that he wants a wife; in the film, he says ‘companion’. Del Toro is equal opportunity with his horniness.

While he has never been intimate in this form, he is certainly willing to, if it leads him towards his end goal, which is discussed in the next point.

What is the wish your character made? Why did they make it?

He wants to be loved.

His life thus far has been a series of rejections. Victor, who he recognises as his father, ditches him almost immediately after he is reborn, leaving him to fend for himself. He takes off into the woods and spends the winter observing a peasant family, which is where he gets most of his ideas about companionship and love. The family patriarch, an old blind man, even teaches the Creation how to read and speak, and is the father to him that Victor Frankenstein could never be. Unfortunately, the rest of the family are terrified of the Creation when he presents himself, and that’s when he goes off to find Victor and request another like himself.

That ends poorly, and the rest of the story is the Creation pursuing Victor to the literal ends of the earth, where they have their final confrontation in the Arctic.

In any case, what the Creation wants, more than anything, is someone to love him, and not in the Victor Frankenstein “I’m an absent father who maybe sort of comes around to tolerating my child on my deathbed” sense. He has seen other people love, both familial and romantic, and desperately wants that for himself. He tried to love Victor, but was rebuffed; he loved the old man, but got chased away; he wanted someone like himself to love, but Victor wouldn’t make another creation. In the film, Elizabeth treats him well and is very kind to him, so he got a glimmer of what love is like from her. When the Creation is being threatened with a gun, Elizabeth gets in front of him and takes the bullet herself, leading to her death. The only person who loved him loved him enough to die for him, and he never got to experience what it would be like to have someone like Elizabeth in his life. Because the Creation specifically asks Victor for another like himself, we get the sense that he understands what that means and wants a romantic partner.

How will your character initially react to Decadia's setting?

There are so many people, and so much technology! It’s going to be overwhelming for him at first! (Note: the book was published in 1818 but the film takes place in the mid-1850s, so the Creation will understand references up until the latter date.) That said, he’s curious about people and wants to know more about what it’s like to be a part of a society, and so he’ll be eager to take part in the world. There will undoubtedly be missteps, but he’s going to try his hardest.

He'll be delighted by Decadia having a library, and probably fascinated by the theatres. I can easily see him spending a lot of time reading and learning about both Decadia and the other worlds people come from.

What are you most interested in doing with your character in Decadia?

I am here for that sweet Found Family cr as much as I’m here for monsterfucking. It’s what Guillermo del Toro would want.

I want the Creation to start to gain a sense of his own worth, and gradually realise that he doesn’t have to stay on the path Victor put him on. I want him to start making friends on his own, and learn how to function and be a part of other people’s worlds. He has never had a chance to really explore his own wants and desires outside of what others expect from him, so that freedom will be both exhilarating and terrifying. This will also play into what kinds of sex he’s interested in, addressed below.

What aspect of sex appeals to your character the most?

He is a touch-starved Victorian guy, so most of his early encounters are going to be very G-rated. He will be ecstatic if someone wants to hang out with him and hold his hand. Hugs will make him melt completely. The first thing he does upon awakening in the film is hug Victor, who half-heartedly hugs him back. It’s the one hug he gets in the entire film.

As he starts gaining confidence and getting more experience, he’ll very much be a people-pleaser. Whatever another character is into, he’ll do to make them happy and keep them interested in him. This will stop before he gets into anything too deep or unsettling (he is very much capable of defending himself and I’d rather not have him freak out and attack other characters), but hopefully he’ll have some friends by then to set him straight on what healthy relationships look like.

What kinks does your character have, known or unknown to them? Why do they have those particular kinks?

At the beginning, he’ll have no idea beyond a vague sense of wanting to be close to someone. I think that, over time, he’ll develop into someone who is versatile and good, giving, and game for most things. I can absolutely see him being into giving oral, partner body worship, and being exceptionally good at aftercare. Domming won’t come easily or naturally to him—it will remind him too much of people being afraid of him—but he will excel at aftercare. He’ll be the guy who hangs out at the kink club for the sole purpose of cuddling people coming down from sub space.

However, the kinkiest and hottest thing in the world to him will probably be something like spooning all night and waking up next to someone he loves who loves him back.
